Our Story

From bike-sharing to knowledge-sharing
2016: The Beginning
Hey there! Let me tell you the story of o.bike. It all started back in 2016 as something completely different from what you see today.
o.bike was originally a stationless bicycle-sharing system. What's that? Well, unlike traditional bike-sharing where you pick up and return bikes to fixed stations, our bright yellow bikes could be picked up and dropped off practically anywhere in the city. Pretty cool, right?
Global Presence
At our peak, o.bike operated in 24 countries worldwide, including Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Thailand. Our distinctive yellow bikes became a familiar sight in urban centers across the globe.
2018-2020: Challenges & Transition
Like many innovative ideas, we faced our share of challenges. Between 2018 and 2020, o.bike gradually ceased operations as a bike-sharing service. Why? A perfect storm of issues hit us:
- Vandalism became a significant problem in several cities
- Improper parking created urban clutter and regulatory pushback
- Financial sustainability proved challenging in many markets
- And then came COVID-19, delivering the final blow to our operations
It was a tough time, but every ending creates space for a new beginning.
